Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialization
Coursera (University of California, Davis) · Marketplace
Our verdict
Excellent as classic SEO education and close to worthless as AI SEO education. Eric Enge's involvement and a 13,108-review base make this the most credible SEO credential on any marketplace, and the capstone forces real work. But for a site about AI SEO courses, the honest verdict is that 22 minutes on AI Overviews inside 63 hours does not qualify. Independent reviewers also flag it as theory-heavy and slow to update. Recommend it as a foundation, never as the AI answer.

Coursera's FAQ for this Specialization states it cannot be taken for free. It is included with Coursera Plus, and financial aid and scholarships are available for those who qualify. A third-party review cites USD 49 per month, giving roughly USD 196 to 245 over a four to five month completion, but that figure was not confirmed on Coursera's own page and is recorded here as unverified. Coursera Plus was listed at USD 59 per month or USD 399 per year as of 2026-09-20, with a promotional USD 35 per month for 3 months running until 2026-09-23. Individual Coursera subscriptions for a single Specialization are billed separately and that figure was not verified.
Open course website →What this course actually is
The most academically credible SEO programme on any marketplace, and the one with by far the strongest review base at 4.6 from 13,108 reviews and 277,220 learners. Five courses run about 63 hours in total: Introduction to Google SEO, Google SEO Fundamentals, Optimizing a Website for Google Search, Advanced Content and Social Tactics to Optimize SEO, and a Google SEO Capstone Project. Eric Enge, lead author of The Art of SEO, teaches the advanced course, which is genuine industry authority of a kind no Udemy instructor in this set can match. Twenty-three subtitle languages make it the most accessible option available. The catch is directly relevant to this site's topic. AI coverage is limited to a 22-minute AI Overviews segment inside module 3 of the first course. This is a classic SEO qualification with a nod to AI, not an AI SEO programme, and independent reviewers criticise it as theory-heavy and slow to update.

Strengths and weaknesses
What it does well
- Genuine, independently verifiable industry authority in Eric Enge
- Largest and most trustworthy review base of any course here at 13,108 reviews
- University-badged certificate with real recruiter recognition
- Twenty-three subtitle languages, the widest accessibility in this set
- Graded assignments and a capstone consulting project rather than passive video
Where it falls short
- AI coverage amounts to roughly one 22-minute AI Overviews segment in 63 hours
- No published update date, and independent reviewers say content lags current practice
- Cannot be taken free per Coursera's own FAQ, unlike most Coursera courses
- One independent review rates it 2.5 out of 5 and calls it theoretical and not job-ready
- Limited exposure to the SEO tools agencies actually use
How it scores, and why
Depth 7 for 63 hours of structured classic SEO, capped because AI depth is near zero. Currency 3 because AI coverage is one short segment, no update date is published and independent reviewers report lag. Authority 9 for Eric Enge, the only externally verified expert here. Practical 6 for a capstone but little tool work. Value 5 because it cannot be audited free and costs more than the Udemy set. Support 3 for forums with reported poor instructor responsiveness.
Who teaches it
Eric Enge and Rebekah May. Eric Enge is President of Pilot Holding, Inc. and lead author of The Art of SEO, the standard reference text in the field. He speaks regularly at industry conferences, writes for Forbes and Search Engine Land, hosts two weekly digital marketing video broadcasts and sits on Coursera's internal SEO advisory board. Rebekah May teaches the introductory course and holds a 4.7 instructor rating from 2,452 ratings.
The strongest instructor authority in this entire set, and independently verifiable. Enge's authorship of The Art of SEO, his Search Engine Land byline and his 2016 US Search Personality of the Year award are all matters of public record rather than platform self-description.
